my friend bought an AK31 Revision 3.1 (retail) from newegg and it died just after 1 month of use. He went to shuttle to RMA it and they say they only RMA direct buys, is that right? I figured they would warranty retail boards, so just thought i'd check here to see what other peepz have experienced.

I don't think there are many companies (if any) that make OEM mother boards. I think I have heard that you need to send it to the place you bought it.

the board is in fact a retail version of the board. newegg's 30-day satisfaction replacement or refund guarantee has expired. Is he screwed? If so thats pretty crappy of shuttle.

Newegg will replace the board. It's a one year warranty. Just go to NEWEGG and click on the "Online RMA Request".
You'll have to send your board back to them before they will replace it.;)

Forgot to add that you won't get a refund at this point but you will get a new board.

where do you read that its a 1 year warranty? It looks to me that its only 30 days from newegg.

I read thru the whole RMA procedures at NewEgg and there is nothing about a 1 year warranty just the 30 day return policy. Infact NewEgg says they do not warrant any products thats up to the manufacturer of the product :(

ya thats what i figured, i dunno where ShallowHal came up with that 1 year warranty. So back to shuttle, why wouldn't they warranty boards from end-users? I've only RMAed one board before and it was an Asus. They gave me no problem. I told them the problems and they asked for serial # and then gave me and RMA number.

I RMA'd an AV18E motherboard a few months back. I e-mailed thier tech support and they eventually emailed me an rma#. I also talked to someone in thier tech support who was quite helpful.
