Yep. Extended walking, runnning, more heavy lifting, etc. wear on me fast and is starts to hurt like a SOB, but nothing to drop me in my tracks or anything. However, I have developed the unique ability to lean on something, and pull my torso up and seperate some discs in my back, causing a *CRACK* whenever I feel the need. 😀 If you were to put your hand there(lower back), you could feel it popping.

However, that doesn't hurt most of the time. It's like cracking your knuckles and is more relieving than anything. I've seen a chiropractor(You should visit one. GO to one who practices the "Palmer" method. Not the others!) and while he is intruiged, he isn't worried.

my brother did. He is now disabled for life. Last i knew, they removed a cage around his spine because it became infected.

I'm now recovering from my second back surgery. The other was in 8/2000. The first was to remove a cyst from the spinal canal between the shoulder blades. Hurt like nothing else I've ever had. This one was to fuse L5/S1 because of a bad disk. Less pain overall, but the numbness in the legs is weird. I hope this will be the last for a while as I'm only 37.

I've had that done as well but results aren't that good( for me anyway)! 🙁

So far, it seems the pressure in the lower back is better, but the numbness is driving me crazy. They did a mylegram(sp) last Friday and all the nerves are fine. Still have swelling around the the fused area though and that's what is causing my problem.

my friend just had two of those operations in the last few weeks, he cant sit or run right now even though its been like 2 weeks since his last operation.

I had a very similar injury last week. It hurt right below my right scapula especially when i lifted heavy items like my chunky 1 year old boy. My guess was that I had pulled a muscle and it was spasming. Since I was planning on driving 1100 miles that following weekend I went in to the doc right away in hopes of getting it feeling better before the drive.

My guess was correct. I had strained a muscle.

Go see a doc, he will confirm this with a few arm motion tests to figure out which muscle it is and then he will script you a muscle relaxant like flexoral. You will feel better in no time. I made my drive pain free.

When I was a Carpenter I ruptured a disk in my lower due to lifting a heavy stringer for an exterior set of stairs. Luckily my surgery( Had a lamenectomy) was 100% sucessful and although I have to be careful, I have been able to lead mostly a pain free active physical life which has included/does include playing basketball every day until I blew out a calf muscle when I was 42, Weight Training (very carefully), Hiking, Jet Skiing, Baseball and other physical activities. Of course I am extremely careful about lifting and I never due anything that I feel can be hazardous to my back (like volunteering to help people move)

Had a lamenectomy on L4/L5, after bending over and picking my short fat dog up to put him my truck.

Was out for 6 months went back to work, injured again and out another 6 months. Okay now though.

I haven't had surgery, but have 3 ruptured or compressed disks I forget which it is. 2 are kind of bad. I also have lateral traction spurs. I went to a chiropracter at first, but I never could get it streightened out.

I finally went to one of the best hospitals around my area and saw a specialist. He said if I had seen him to start with he would have operated, but since it had been a couple years that time would probably heal it. I was in a lot of pain. I had a shooting pain from my buttocks to my left ankle.

After time I was finally able to sit down for a while without to much pain, so I decided to go to school. It has been about 6 years now and I still have to sleep with a piece of plywood between my matress and boxspring. It doesn't hurt now unless I strain it lifting something. Though if I walk great distances I feel it and it bothers me.

I wasn't covered under workmans comp or anything, so if it werent for my parents letting me live at home I would have really been in a bad situation.

I am just glad that I am able to live a relatively pain free life now.

If you are haveing problems with your back I would recommend seeing a really good specialist. When I saw the last guy I went to he looked at the xray and was able to tell me where my pain was and the types of situations that made it worse. He was right about all of it. Sometimes I wish i had of seen him earlier, but now I think about it and am glad I didn't go under the knife.

Good luck.

Will

Why? He might have been able to fix your back. I had to wait 2 years after my injury for surgery due to the weasel Insurnace Company trying to get out of paying for my claim. By the time I had my surgery I was about in the same situation as you as far as the pain being stablized. But immediately following the surgery I could feel the difference. It's been almost 20 years since I've had the surgery and today I am able to enjoy an active healthy lifestyle pain free.

I really don't like the idea of having surgery. I have never been in the hospital except to visit friends/family and I have also heard horry stories. Admitidly if I had to go through the pain again and knew that it would take a couple of years for the pain to go down I might be tempted to have surgery. But in the back of my mind I can still remember talking to people who have had back surgery or know people who have had the surgery and how it doesn't always come out good for the patient.

I'll also have to admit that surgery has probably come a long way in the past few years too, but I am still scared of it.
