ok.. Ill chime in on this one..
I had worked out for years using traditional weight training. It was not optimal in my opinion.. I do martial arts and needed something more geared to what i needed. i looked at Bruce Lee and saw that he hardly ever used weights and was in possibly the best shape a human can be in..
After doing research online for other training solutions, I ran across Matt Furey's stuff. I was intrigued by it.. I was also kind of thrown off by the marketting pitch Furey was putting up.. It really turns out that he is a crafty saleman, and not really an innovator. Dont waste your money on buying his books or videos. The stuff he sells for hundreds of dollars can be found on the net for free..
Does it work ? YES.. Is it better than weight training? IMO, DEFINITELY YES! The reason i feel this way, is the excercises impact multiple muscle groups.. In weight training you have 1 excercise per muscle.
Matt Furey's stuff is classified as "body weight" excercises, which basically means your body weight is what your are getting your workout from.
In all honesty, I can get a better workout in 15 minutes than i did previously in 1-2 hours at the Gym. Start off doing Hindu Pushups and Hindu Squats.. You will be lucky to get 20 pushups on your first try.. Just build up after that.. I feel like I have had a full body workout after just those 2 excercises...
This is not coming from a "newbie" to working out.. i have been in sports and fitness training for close to 10 years.. I gave away all my weights after switching to this fitness system. i have yet to purchase any books or videos.. all the workouts i do i found online, and once you understand the principles you can design your own excercises very easily..
I'll agree with you only because you bring up a very valid point.
Different regimens will naturally work better for different goals.
I would not suggest this system if you're a body builder. Seriously, how the heck are going to gain muscle mass? I would also not recommend a body-builder's routine for someone who needs to be quick, ie. Martial Arts.
One thing I will disagree with you is your comment in saying that "In weight training you have 1 excercise per muscle." If you've been working out for 10 years you should know better then that.
Squats
Deads
Bench
All work way more then just one muscle...or even muscle group.
