That's what I said, but the guy say that it's a hard drive password that's set by the BIOS. And if it's to be unlocked, some one has to contact Dell and get a password that's generated by Dell. :confused:

I think that's what you'll have to do. I remember reading that somewhere in the Dell manuals before. The hard drive password does not let anyone access the hard drive unless the person has the password.

Ok.. after some more research, I came up with the problem. Apparently, the password is written into EEPROM of the fcuking hard drive. Now the hard part is trying to figure out how to read it and crack it.

Ya my friend gave me a p2 350mhz (a college gave away the pc) the hard drive has a password on it and nothing clears it! I think i just used it as slave since i couldnt get it to boot!

I work for Dell, if you call tech support in a few min they can have you a password.

Nah... my boss just walked over to development and they cracked it. Apparently, the laptop belong to a guy that they fired last Friday.

Probably, but, if they can read the EEPROM, they might. These are EnCase developers you're talking about.
