I went to the dermatologist today and instead of being put on accutane as I thought I would, he told me he would like to try a CO2 slush(cryotherapy) treatment first. He explained that the slush is applied to your face and being that its basically dry ice, it freezes your face and peels off the top couple layers of skin. He said it can leave your face red for 15 minutes after treatment. I have been trying to find info about it on the web, and there doesn't appear to be much. I know it is also widely used to remove lesions, warts and other skin problems. I was wondering how cold it was really, and one person i talked to said it was less cold then say applying an ice cube to your face. But I have laso read that if applied to heavily it can make your skin blister or even scab. That doesn't sound good. But I would imagine since its on your face and since its only for acne, they prolly use an extremelly light dose. Anybody have any info?

Thread necro'd by spammer and members who quote spammer and spam link.

I've heard of individual marks like birth marks frozen off, but never the entire face. I wonder how fast it can chill my drinks.

I'm not gonna do it if it makes my skin blister or scab. I think that would look worse then acne.

I've heard of cryotherapy for warts but I would be cautious in applying it to fragile-sensitive skin such as the face.

I've never heard of it either. It seems like it should work fine, I mean most acne treatments basically just work on killing the top layers of skin, anyway, don't they?

Bad things could happen, I mean used irresponsibly you could get frostbite, but if you live in america you could then sue the pants off of your dermatologist and everybody knows that while good looks account for 10% of attraction, the rest is money so you'd actually be ahead of the game after that.

on one hand i would probably trust my dermatoligists opinion more then your friends or the n00bs on ATOT on the other hand the last thing a person who has a lot of acne needs is scabs on his face.

I used to have liquid nitrogen spot-applied to blemishes on my face whan I regularly saw a dermatologist - I went monthly, iirc.
No ill effects, helped quite a bit ;)
If you're that concerned about it, seek a second medical opinion.

I've had that done... though I'm not sure if it's quite like you're describing. I believe mine was liquid nitrogen on a little cloth that they shake out really well then rub over your face. It has a fairly strong exfoliating effect and feels REALLY REALLY good, esp. on a hot day. :D I didn't get any rashes or even redness. I'm wondering if what they're talking about with you is something stronger though. Dunno.

Well he didnt mention any horrible side effects except that my face would look red and wind burnt for about 15 minutes after the treatment, and stupid me forgot to ask about the side effects. I was just glad I didn't have to go on accutane yet.

I know accutane works. But at the very least it will be a pain, being so dried out. And at the worst very bad things can come from it. So if there is any way to get rid of this crap without accutane , then I am all for it. But if this don't work, then i will go to accutane

Exactly.
i took retinA at the time- Accutane can have some severe side-effects. Not to scare you, or anything (it seems your educated on the matter anyway), I'd be pretty open to treatment aside from Accutane.
