Allright, I do. Up to now I had an HP 15 inch LCD with DVI and it was ~fine, albeit with some very irritating backlight defects. However, I managed to sell it for a good price and adding just $100 I bought a Samtron 72V 17 inch LCD. On paper, it looked great, except for it being only analog. But what the heck, I thought. Reviews for Samsung panels have always been favorable, and I fell into the trap. And Samsung screwed me up again. What's worse I swore not to buy anything from Samsung ever again after using their 17 inch CRT and getting rid of it after a month of pain and hatred. But they got to me once again with their attractive pricing. I was stupid enough to get that Samtron 72V monitor (what the heck, I thought, it's not Samsung). Yes, it's not, it's worse, dang it.
First of all, this POS is too bright. It's so bright I get pain in my eyes just looking at it. And notice this is with both brightness and contrast down to zero. Holy crap, does it make any frigging sense at all? When it's at zero it shines like a projector right in your eyeball? I have a suspicion this unit wasn't built by humans with human eyes. What the heck, am I not right? Who would produce a monitor and set it up like this?
Second. It's impossible to get good picture with my Creative GeForce 256 video card. I have a suspicion I'll have to replace it with a GF 4MX 420 or similar b/c I hope it will have better 2D quality. BTW, how are those ASUS ones? - Adding cost to the purchase, absolutely unnecessary.
Third - this screen has 1 dead red sub-pixel. It's not annoying at all since I rarely ever see it and it's closer to the corner. But it's a shame for Samsung to sell a monitor with a dead sub-pixel, am I right?
So the question of this rant is: what the heck am I supposed to do with brightness? I can't bear it. I'm completely frustrated at this point.
The moral of this rant is: people, don't buy from Samsung. I bought their products twice and both times they were utter crap, causing only headaches (literally) and unnecessary spendings. It's not cheaper, it turns to be more expensive in the end if you go with Samsung.
