I've felt like my wife settled for me a time or 2, but then she does something seriously cool or nice for me that makes me realize she didn't😀

Usually that how a lot of my relationships started, I'd settle for some cute girl... but usually I end up liking them alot after spending time with them. Thats how I met my wife. The thing I realized is as long as the person was interesting to be with and I liked them as a person, and of course hopefully they were decent looking, that I could make a lasting relationship with them. The few times when I have not settled and gone for the cute girl I've always liked, I've ended up getting to know them and not liking them. I dont know I guess it depends on your definition of settling, to me usually it means I'm settling for a girl that isnt as hot as I would like. I dont think I could settle for a hot girl who isn't someone I could talk to.

So how do you know when you'll find somebody who isn't going to settle if you're always pushing people away?

I meant that I'm afraid that I'm settling. That sounds kind of bad, but generally I mean that I am constantly balancing all the requirements (right religious background, someone my parents will like, caring...etc.), and trying to figure out if I am suppose to give one of those up when I meet a guy I like.
