when i browse websites, i barely notice any change... but when i play online games, i get lag like crazy and my ping stays constantly high.

This problem started when I hooked up my linksys 4 port router to share the internet connection between two computers?

is there a way to fix this problem with our getting rid of the home network? HELP :frown:

First off, this belongs in networking and not off topic.

Have you tried it recently without the router? I highly doubt its the router.

Umm...check to see if the other PC isn't set to download tons of porn in the background. Maybe the user has multiple profiles and logged out of a password-protected session that is used to download tons of BT stuff. Turn that PC off and see if it makes any difference.

Also, webpages take far less bandwidth to view than playing online games. Go to either broadbandreports.com or 2wire.com to benchmark your connection. Make sure download speed is over 200Kbps. Perform several tests as the result will vary.

Another possibility is that you PC might have a trojan horse installed. If so, it may be doing things in the background that you are not aware of (i.e. acting as a email server).
