If you buy a used item from an Amazon seller and the item arrives damaged or not as described are you covered? Does Amazon back you up in any way?

Yes, Amazon protects you. I'm too lazy to look up the details for you but they are on the Amazon website.

See the Hot Deals forum for a recent thread on a seller advertising RAM then shipping halloween costumes instead. Amazon protected the buyers.

First contact the seller and let them know that it was damaged. Any decent seller will refund you your money.
If for whatever reason they refuse to make it right. Then file an A-Z claim with Amazon and they'll force the refund.

But make sure to give the seller a chance first.

(I do a bunch of selling on Amazon, and it is annoying when buyers go right to A-Z claim without even telling me something was wrong. I will always give a full refund if something goes wrong. However too many A-Z claims counts is a bad mark on my account. So it is nice to give the courtesy to let the seller make it right first)

You will be fine, contact them and give them a chance first. If they dont come through they are screwed and amazon will take the money from them

Amazon holds seller funds for 14 days unless you have a pro account. They're also very liberal about returns. You don't deal with the seller, you deal with amazon.

That said, if you want to buy something why not check out forums like this one? Usually there's one for it if the item is used, and you'll most likely get a better deal.

Keep in mind many used/refurb'd parts online are being resold and never tested.

Amazon will protect you, but nothing gets back your time.

It's always best to correspond with a merchant prior to buying a used item so all expectations are met.

When I sell on here and other sites I price my stuff cheaper than the cheapest used one on amazon

same here. I go below the 'ebay average' almost always.

I have had a few unique items that didn't really show up on ebay/amazon but in the end I got even more than my asking price.

My Intel Tualatin PIII-S 1.4GHz/512K [SL657, FPO/Batch: H208017W] I was able to sell for 2x what I paid for it new. A datacenter needed that exact CPU overnighted.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. I had my eye on a few good deals there but I was hesitant to buy.

Becareful though... contact the seller first before purchasing anything new/used. Some companies don't honor their warranty if the seller is not an authorized re-seller for their products. Good Luck!
