Anybody else want to see a disaster movie where the disaster ISN'T averted?

Personally, I'm pretty tired of the pseudo-apocalypse genre. But I get really interested when I think about what would happen if the disaster couldn't be prevented and humanity actually had to cope with it. I'd definitely pay to see a well-done movie like that. Anybody else?

The Quest with Jean Claude Van Dam. Well....actually the movie itself was the disaster, but you know what I mean.....

Crossroads
Cradle 2 Tha Grave
Dumb and Dumberer
Riding in Cars with Boys

are the newest disaster movies where the disaster wasn't avoided.

What about deep impact? They got quite the disaster.

I thought Deep Impact was pretty good, honestly. I especially liked the balance between disaster and, uh, not-disaster. But the disaster wasn't REALLY apocalyptic (although it was really, really major) and it's now been done. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'd like to see a disaster movie that doesn't pull any punches.

personally, i want to see a version of the jackal where he kills the first lady and goes on his merry way

Wasn't there a old movie adaptation of On the Beach? Not really a 'disaster' movie, but the premise of the book (this is not a spoiler) is that the entire world is destroyed in a nuclear war, only Australia is left but the fallout will soon reach them and wipe them out too.

Alas, Babylon has a similar plot (don't know if it was made into a movie though).

Yea, the Jackal was one of those word ending ever kinda movies.

Well, it's a man-made disaster and only directly affects one city but, The Sum of All Fears was good.

Nah, what's the point? Disaster flicks are already bad enough. If the big bad thing isn't averted, that just gives the director license to spend even more time and money on special effects and even less on characters and plot. Then again, maybe that's a good idea. Paris getting wiped out was the only good thing in Armageddon. Maybe if the earth had bought it in the end we could have had some more countries we hate going up in flames and less Bruce Willis. I wish they'd make the book "Lucifer's Hammer" into a movie, that'd be a pretty interesting post-apocalyptic film.

I wanted to see the big asteroid blow up in Deep Impact. And I'm proud that I never watched the crap known as Arma-sh!t-on-this-movie. I hate Ben Fagleck, and that's reason enuf for me not to watch it.

But I like good movies, and not feel good movies.....so Titanic for me was bearable.

I guess the better answer is I'd rather see a disaster movie with a good plot, then one where the insurmountable danger is surmounted.

Funny to me was how when I was watching titanic the first time, I found myself hoping they'd miss that iceberg 🙂
