Anybody else think crows are awesome?

Crows are intelligent and hearty creatures. Watching 2 in a tree right now outside my office, pecking each other on the neck. Must be some kind of mating ritual. As cool as they are though, you should never feed them because it fucks up their routine.

I want one as a pet. I've found their nests before, but the branches were too weak to climb and snatch a chick.

True story. While stationed in Germany i had my ruck in the back of the truck and stepped away from the truck for about 20 min. as we are walking back we see this big ass crow/raven taking flight from the truck. but he had something in his beak. we get to the truck and i see that son of a bitch dug in my ruck, found my lunch and flew off with a UN-opened can of tuna. hope the bastard starved trying to open it.

Crows are smart.

More than likely that crow flew up high and dropped it on some Nazi's or Taliban's head (whoever it is you were over there to shoot) in order to crack it open and thus doing the both of you a favor.

Crows mate for life and in captivity they can learn to speak like parrots and cockatiels. The proliferation of West Nile virus in N. America substantially reduced their numbers and their culture (yes they have a culture) has observably changed because of it. They are able to communicate fairly complex ideas with one another.

In the OP's observation, I bet they were picking bird-lice off of each other.

We have ravens here that hang out at our facility all day long. Don't piss them off though. They have a memory and if they figure out what car you drive: They'll target it, either by pooping on it, not just one but their buddies as well, or tear apart your wipers/pull out the rubber molding around windows.

Oh...and it's funny watching them harass eagles. The eagle will take it for a few minutes, but when it finally has had enough, it'll chase them off.

In the US its not legal to have a Crow as a pet, well a US crow. You can get African crows in pet stores. They don't carry Ebola but all crows can have the west Nile virus.
