Anybody else think American Idol was fixed?

Every informal poll I saw had Clay winning by a sizeable margin. I, personally, didn't care for either of them, but I thought Clay would make the most interesting pop idol whereas Ruben is just gonna cut a bunch of protypical slow R&B songs about making up or getting busy.

The cynical part of me figured it didn't matter who people voted for. Last year a white female won. Logic tells you that if another white person wins the competition, the black audience and a large chunk of the white audience will abandon the show as biased towards whites. Are you telling me you think the producers are more concerned with the integrity of the vote or with profits? I don't think so.

Then we hear how the difference was 1,300 votes. Out of 25 million! That's .000052% of the total vote. That's 1/20,000th of one percent separating the two. Unbelievable. Too unbelievable, in fact.

I'm not saying the outcome should have been any different, cause I hate pop music in general and could care less which of the two I won't be listening to this next year. I only got involved cause my wife watches the show and it's on before 24 which sucked this year in comparison to last year too btw. I'm just wondering if anybody believes the ultimate results are predecided by the producers to maximize the perceived credibility of the show and assure profitability for years to come.

I guess the ultimate questions is, how much reality is really in these reality shows anyway? It's likely that the producers don't quite trust reality alone to generate an audience.

i think they said the difference was 13,000, not 1,300. And i figure thats becuase everyone in Alabama probably sat at there phoone all night and voted about 50 times for ruben each.

The difference was actually 130,000 votes. Ryan misquoted the numbers on the show. Plus, "informal" polls are not going to be accurate.

I don't think it was "fixed" per se. I think Fox used all the influence it could to help certain people (such as Josh) get farther in the competition, but I don't think the actual voting process was tampered with. Unfortunately, there is no way to know for sure.

Clay came out better by not winning. He got the same exposure and noteriety as Rueben, but he's not tied into a crappy american idol record contract, and he's free to go and look for someone offering a less restrictive contract, which I don't doubt he'll be able to find.

I think it was fixed, but it can never be proved. It really seemed like Clay had all the momentum going into the finale. And the vote thing is very suspicious.

Executives in those situations always have the last word. It could have been the producer of the show, or it could have been Rupert Murdoch calling at 9:30 saying to give it to Ruben.

Ruben winning is perfect for appealing to the max # of viewers, you know? Kelly Clarkson=white female, Ruben=African American male, exact opposite ends of the spectrum. American Idol #3? It will be an Asian of course!!!! ;)

Yet somehow they kept saying a different number after every commercial break. (I heard a different number at least 3 times.)

how did they do the poll, by computer entries?

If so, there couldn't be but five or six votes for the entire state of Alabama (and that's from the one guy who owns the sole computer in the state.)

:p

Yesterday on the 5 o'clock news here in Raleigh they actually had a segment where there were people in the local area complaining about having nothing but busy signals on the phone numbers (which is to be expected) but what really makes you think is that for the people that sent text messages for Clay they got a message back thanking them for voting for Ruben. Apparently WRAL asked FOX about this but all they told them is that they didn't know what was wrong since nobody should have gotten text responses until the next day (Wed.) instead of Tuesday night and they would "look in to it." Ofcourse it's kinda like the Superbowl... now that there's a winner there's no reversing the refs decision.
But like was said before... Clay probably got off better anyway. He was going to make a fortune win or lose. It's just a matter of he does it on the Billboard charts or on Broadway?

I don't think it was fixed. If it was, who gives a sh|t? It's a TV show. I think both of those guys will have success recording careers if they keep their nose out of the dirt.

i dunno, i guess the title of American Idol.

Clive Davis, Head Honcho of RCA and J Records. Former Honcho of Arista Records ... came out and said they both Clay and Rueben have already did studio time for their albums. Simon mentioned the thought of dropping both of their albums on the same week and see what sells more, Talent vs Image. It's very intersting.

Both of last year's finalist have recording contracts, again, i didn't care who won.

Think about the fact that the undoubtedly 2 best singers in the competition were the 2 finalists ... this didn't make for much room to play the race/gender card (vs. Kelly Clarkson being a white female). It could've been a black male and a black female... nobody would say a word if Clay never competed and Kimberley Locke made it to the finals because there would be no race card to play. Fact is... those 2 finalists WERE the best, and the chances of them thinking "hey let's appeal to a black audience now since Ruben is here" doesn't seem likely.

Then again, I couldn't care less... I just watched it for Kimberly Caldwell...

OMG AMERICAN IDOL FIXED?
HOW CAN IT BE!??!!??!

Who would want to fix a TV SHOW?!?!?!?!
OMG THE INHUMANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Who cares who won. It's not like 2nd place is gonna be unemployed. I'm sure the other guy is getting tons of offers for musicals or theatre. He sounds like a theatre guy.
