This has been bothering me for some time. I have noticed that those channels on TV where there are christian religious fanatics giving speaches and such appear to be growing more prevelant. This scares me, for several reasons.

1) Their intolerance for other people. They believe that they have that absolute truth and they alone. This is something that we don't need in our world. It leads to discrimination against other ideas and the stiffling of learning. It is what caused the Inqusition, the Nazi rise in power, and many other stains in our world history.

2) Their unconcern for the environment. I heard one preacher say that we should use up all of the reasources on the earth as fast as we want to, because that is why God put it there. And it didn't matter anyway, because Jesus was coming soon. I believe that the environment is one of the most important, if not the most important, issue before us today. It is obvious, at the pace we are going at, that we will run out of resources in the near future. It might take another 50 to 100 years, but that is the future of your decendents.

3) The ammount of power that the individual "Preacher People" are gaining. They have absolute contol over the crowds that are gathered before them. I feel almost that if, whoever was speaking, said to go out and kill people, they would. THey jump, clap, sing, cry, shout their hatred... all on command.

Now, I am not saying that religion is wrong or that God doesn't exist. I am saying that fanatics are scary. I hope that I won't live to be in a world where they have taken over.

"A fanatic is someone who can't change their mind and won't change the subject"

someone should make a big hoax at one of these places, and make it look like jesus is comming out of the clouds. play them all for fools on camera for a few hours, then send the tape to every source of media on earth.

let them be the laughing stock of the world. then pack 'em into jail for causing a disturbance.

Have you been watching the tapes of Amway conventions too, by any chance? Same psychology in my opinion. There are many people, it seems, intent on pushing their view and finding ways to indoctrinate masses of followers. This is a bit scary, but relatively uncommon, I hope.

There just aren't enough folks with a real grasp on the God of the Bible to fill up all the air time on the Christian television channels, I fear. That's my take on what you're observing.

There is ZERO chance they will become mainstream. I was listening to a local channel run by Black Jews as I came to find out. Thought it was a comedy at first!

Of course, after reading your 2), you are as 'indoctrinated as they!

Religious fanatics are loud... thus are heard, but often disregarded. For every person you see buying into the brainwashing propoganda of the religious fanatic, you will see a dozen more laughing... but you will continue to only see the brainwashed person in the media, and the religious fanatic's message of hate and judgement will encompass the entire idea of faith ...turning off more and more people from religion, and then faith altogether....

don't worry, their space shuttle to Blisstonia will be arriving soon... all hail the Leader.

A fanatic is somebody who posts without reading all the other posts first. I hope nobody said that.

Religous fanatics? I've had way more than my share of them. I must say they do have a great influence, because it completely changed my view about religion and especially Christianity.

I got to see the fanatics first hand and needless to say, it wasn't a pleasant experience. (Some Christian sect/cult decided that I need to be saved, and ended up with me having to get a restraining order. nuff said)
