Does anybody else here, keep all of their game boxes?

I have hundreds and hundreds of pc games....way too many
My wife is always getting on me to sell some of them....or to at least ditch some of those old big boxes....so we could have some more room!

I just can't bring myself to do either as pc gaming is my biggest hobby and I love collecting the pc game software.

I know it is the digital age, and now days you can get all of your games on digital download, and while I really do like Steam, as it works great for me and I love the sales that they run.......I prefer and usually buy the hard copy of a game, when available.

I just love having the box......the hard copy of the manual and the cd or dvd....plus any other goodies that may be inside.

"Hi....my name is imported_whirlwind...and I have a gaming addiction"
Anybody else here, that just can[t seem to throw away those big boxes?

Here is some of what i am talking about.

Here is Baldurs Gate II.....heck today they would consider this to be a collector's edition, with the map and stuff......the quick reference card is sealed in hard plastic....the manual is so huge they had to spiral bind it!
I just can't bring myself to throw everything away and just keep the cd's!

Here is the artwork on the inside of the front flap......the artwork is another reason that I don't want to throw them away.......who needs more room anyway.

show us a pic of your entire collection together.

Oh Lord, slightlyhuman........It would take me forever to round everything up for a picture....they are stored in large plastic totes in the basement along with some in cabinets in basement......I guess I could if I ever took the time to organize things or just to dig them out for pics.....I do have individual pics of all of my big box games....well, not all....but alot....as I was going to sell them so I took pics to put on e-bay....then talked my wife out of it. :awe:

That is what these pics are......I may post more of those pics for you later.

I used to have all of mine but finally it became overwhelming. I have a problem with being a pack rat but I am slowly breaking myself of this habit, it is however a ongoing struggle.

At first it might seem odd but in just a short time you won't really miss them.

Yes, I even have a large box that has nothing but game boxes in it. Then I have game boxes on by bookshelves and sitting on a piano right now. That said, every game I have bought over the last two years is digital, so I'm not sure why I still have them and not sure why I still have so many of my old games, because I don't ever play them. I'm a PC Game packrat.

Yeah I keep everything as well.

Some older PC games can fetch some nice prices if they are complete.

Back in the day the box and manual were a part of the gaming experience. I still have old boxes from Nintendo games. I don't have that many, so it's not a problem, but I do have all the boxes from every PC game I've purchased that came with one. I still look at the one from FarCry from time to time. It reminds me of how much fun I had playing that game (both SP and MP) for hours and hours. And the MP community of that game was tons of fun.

Still have them and store all the docs/disc in them when not in the current play routine. Abhor the idiots that toss the packaging, especially now that it's in the vastly reduced sized carboard or dvd sleeve.

I agree with FarCry....fantastic game, indeed.....I am getting ready to play a mod for it called The Delta Sector

Here is the original Big Box release of FarCry.....I am glad that there are many more people than me, that do not throw this stuff away......this will help my cause :)

I keep all of mine as well, but like you, am running out of space. I am going to just keep a spreadsheet of my games + cd keys, put the games in a CD wallet, and flatten out and hide the retail boxes.

I kept the boxes for some of the older big games I loved, like the original Zelda on the NES, some of the ones after it like a Link to the Past. I have the Wing Commander boxes, WC3 and WC4. I threw Prophecy away. I have the Ultima Online box and guide and all that stuff that came with it. There's some more in there, and the boxes and instructions and all that just stay up in my closet. Some games are worth remembering like that.

in the early 90's i used to get a lot of games so i have most of those boxes but they're all packed away. I loved them though. now i don't get as many games anymore, but still keep the boxes.

My suggestion is to keep those old boxes. Just get rid of the cardboard inside them, carefully open both ends of the box, let them fold naturally, and flatten them. That way they take up much less space, and the corners wont get all banged up. Keep all the old manuals, cards, maps, etc. Then you can bust them out of the attic once in awhile and gaze upon the greatness, when your wife is away.

I kept all the boxes so far yes, but I haven't bought a retail PC game since approximately three years. But yes, the point is I do keep boxes, most of which are in good condition might I add, but some of them became a bit discolored over time (for instance my DOOM II and Oblivion boxes) or have their corners damaged (that's a classic). I always had a nostalgic side as well so I don't see myself throwing them away in the waste or recycle basket any time soon, I'll keep them until... well I don't know, until I don't care about them anymore I guess? Which might well take a couple of decades still.

why is someone an idiot for throwing out completely useless garbage? i don't have the room to keep all the stuff I currently use/own let alone that garbage.

I try to keep my boxes but inevitably some of them get so beaten up that I may as well throw them away. I believe I still have some boxes for some of my older SNES games, though. The oldest computer game box I have... probably Tiberian Sun. I also have BG2, but not in as great condition as yours.

If someone didnt say it already, I throw out the plastic boxes and keep the artwork. I know you mentioned paper boxes and someone suggested breaking them down for storage. I would do something like that. Decide what has to be kept and throw out the rest.

I keep the discs in old cd cases.

Yes I keep all the boxes but obviously don't have a huge collection like some people in this thread. I buy most of my games through Steam now.
