Thanks to all the great advice from all you fellow Anandtechers, I installed Win2K on my machine at home. Everything is great. My only gripe is this. Whenever I used to play Counter-Strike I could get a ping from 150-200, now when I try to play on the same server, I get about a 250+ ping. I connect at 49.2 constantly. Any suggestions? Is there something I need to tweak? I appreciate any help.

I think its just that you did not tweak your Win2k installation of CounterStrike. Try upping the rate and the pushlatency variables in counterstrike.

The rate should be as high as your connection can support. I forgot the optimal setting for pushlatency, since I haven't played CS for a while.

i agree. set your rate (assuming you have cable/dsl) so something rediculous like 20000, and your pushlatency to -1/2 your normal ping (after changing your rate). ex: if you normally ping at 100, pushlatency should be -50 or so.

the rate makes the bigest difference. it limits how many b/s HL will try to send to the server, default is like 3000 or approx 3kB/s, while 20000 = ~20kB/s, much better :p
