Yeah that's how I usually find out which one is legit. Still annoying though especially when they completely hide the real download link. They did not do that in this case though.

Still lot of people probably get viruses this way because they just click any one.

I experienced this just today actually. Wanted to download some iso image for a live linux system that does benchmarking/stress test, and I wonder why I ended up downloading something else instead of an .iso file. Went through it again and apparently I clicked on the wrong 'download' link when there were three of them in one page.

totally agree, anyone with less experience can easily fall for it as i've seen my cousins getting into infinite loops trying to download a tiny little file. And they end up downloading at least 2 other files. :|

Yes, or at least just give me a direct link to the file. I don't get the point of them dicking around making the process more complicated than it has to be.

this, torrents or usenet for me. it's a shame that all the kids ruined the good name of torrents when all the p2p networks was getting shutdown, it's a great technology and a cheap and effecient way of distributing content.

They aren't fake, they take you to real downloads for malware.

i spent literally like 5 minutes trying to download rivatuner yesterday. there were many "download" buttons on the page, but none were for rivatuner. turned out the download link was on a entirely different page.
