Anybody else get a 360-related call from Gamestop?

I got an automated call telling me "You suck, you're not getting your pre-order until after Xmas". Well, words to that effect. Blame is explicitly placed on MS, and GS claims they are filling pre-orders in the order they were placed. Now is that on a store-by-store basis or nationwide? I would guess the former, in which case I'm in good shape because the store I pre-ordered from didn't have too many people ahead of me, but it they have it together enough to send out this message maybe it's nationwide (in which case boo!). Time to call the store I suppose. That and plan to camp outside of CC.

That said, it wouldn't be setting much of a precedent in some senses

Dunno exactly where I am on the list, I'll have to ask. All I know is I called around and this one store seemed to think I'd have no problem. Of course this was months ago... Gamestop in Harlem (NYC, duh) for those wondering. I'll call tomorrow to find out what I can.

When I made my pre-order about a month and a half ago, they said "You are kind of far down on the list so you might not get it on Nov 22nd, but you will before Christmas."

I'm not holding out any hope.

I read this on Penny-Arcade the other day:

We got an email from an employee at a "dedicated games retailer" that might intrigue you, regarding how 360s are being distributed. I'd imagine it's probably store by store, but here you go: they are going to the people who purchased the most accessories, as opposed to the people that got on there first. We've heard it from people going into stores as well, where the person behind the counter - in what I'm going to call an act of kindness, given the situation - suggests that they throw a couple peripherals on the pile to guarantee it. I'm not saying this is what happened to me, I'm just saying that it happens.

Who knows if it's true or not. Certainly makes sense to sell them like that from the retailer's standpoint, even if it is a bit crappy.
