Ever since I was a kid, I couldn't stand lunch meat. I'm not sure what it was... it's always felt kind of slimy or something. Off in some way at least, like meat just should ever be cold or something. I know I'm in the minority here, but I want to know just how small this minority is.

I could see why you would think that, but it has never bothered me.

I don't like the pre packaged stuff, but the stuff from the deli counter is tasty.

Well...it's not like it's good for you or anything. It's loaded with all kinds of chemicals and perservatives. Better to cook chicken/turkey/roast yourself and thinly shave off pieces for sandwiches.

Do you just mean the mixed lunch meats like a bolagna or salami or do youmean all lunch meat, including deli meats.... Like pastrami?

Pre-packaged crap is definitely nasty, but Boar's Head ham and turkey and stuff is pretty good. I'm more of a hot food fan in general, but it's not bad for a quick lunch or something.

Any of it. Even something "simple" like sliced turkey or something. What's weird is right now I'm eating a cold grilled chicken sandwich I cooked this morning and not thinking twice about it. It has something to do with the slimy sides you get when you thinly slice it or something. I can't explain it... it just bothers me.

That slime is where all the flavor is though!

I like it, and miss having it in the fridge right now. My wife is pregnant and apparently deli meats are a major risk.

According to the USDA:
ALL deli meats, including turkey, roast beef and ham can possibly be contaminated with Lysteria monocytogenes bacteria, which can cause premature labor or stillbirth.

Um, the freshly sliced stuff from the deli isn't slimey. Sounds like you are talking about the stuff that is prepackaged. There is a pretty big difference between these 2 products.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I make a turkey sandwich every day for work. I have to get oven roasted or whatever looks most dry at the deli. I usually get about ~3/4 lb of turkey and make sandwiches for ~10 days or so. By the end of a week, the turkey gets a little slimey and it freaks me out. I know the obvious solution is to buy less turkey more often but it isn't all that convenient to spend my whole life in a grocery store buying lunch meat!
