Anybody else able to get rid of stuff by simply putting it out on the curb???

If anybody followed my TV thread, you know I recently ditched and old-school max-capacity 27" TV, entertainment center.

It was almost 20yrs old & I had no more use for it (plus it was fairly cheaply built) so I just put it out on the curb & it was gone within an hour. (about 100lbs ta' boot!)

Later, I put a bean bag chair out there &.......presto...........gone!

I dunno if these people just cruise the streets daily or what, but it never ceases to amaze me.

My dad does that... Just walks it out to the curb, puts a sign on it and it's gone. Never fails, within a half hour it's gone.

I once parked my car along the curb late at night instead of my garage, and the next morning it was gone. So yeah, I know what you mean. :D

Well it couldn't have been built that cheaply if it lasted you 20 years.

Try this:

Put out something with a "free" sign and time how long it takes to get picked up.

Now, put out something with a "for sale" sign and time how long it takes to get stolen.

:D

Ya, I suppose I shouldn't be amazed as us folks here on AT jump all over free stuff if it's coming from a retailer......

I think that what surprises me most is simply how "quickly" the stuff is gone.

Are there people perusing the streets all day looking for this stuff???

yeah i live in Arleta, CA (san fernando valley) and we put out everything on the curb and it goes away! 2 months ago we put out my old comp desk which was made out of that crap press wood stuff. It was old, worn out, the keyboard tray was gone, i cut a part of it to fit against my wall, AND it was raining when we put it out (that press wood stuff swells up from water) and it was gone within 12 hours.

I've picked up 3 computers and a 19" dell monitor from the side of the road.
