It's not really an option for me...I need the landline to call internationally. Using the cell to call out of the country is way too expensive

My friend does it and his brother would, but Comcast cable requires a landline.

WTH? I've had Comcast in Oklahoma and Washington, and never needed a landline. I haven't had a landline in 4 years.

One other negative of not having a landline (a minor one to me) is that you can't use Tivo without it (unless they've added the ability to get program info over the cable, which they haven't as far as I know).

I don't know why. I'll ask him.

What's the issue with 911?

since they cant know where you are, it defaults you to the 911 dispatcher thats closest to where your phone originates from. so, if youre far away from home (for example) and use your cell phone to call 911, you could have some problems.

Since when?? I've had to call 911 a remarkable number of times from my cell phone, and I've always been connected to the nearest dispatcher, not to my home dispatcher...

Never had this problem.

My number is a Utah number, the last time I called 911 was last November to report an accident in Syracuse. It connected to the right dispatcher. It's worked in Boston and Pennsylvania too. It's not E911 but they can see the location of the tower you are connecting to apparently.

Trying to order from Dominos, now that's a whole another issue. I can call a cop but not get pizza delivered?

Haven't had a landline in 5years. For international calls I use VOIP like Skype or Stanaphone or I use a calling card with my cell phone. Probably won't get a landline while I live by myself at least.

i do, but only because i live in dorms, and not in a house, and i don't think i'd wanna install a landline even if i did move into private accomodation

landlines gives the parents a way to check you if you are at home or not ;)

I haven't had a landline ever (well not counting when I lived at home but that was my parents) I don't see the point 39.99 a mounth and 1200 anytime min is more than I ever need. and the great thing is when my cable goes out I still can use my cell phone via bluetooth to use the internet (a bit slow but works)
