Anybody do away with their land line and use cell phones exclusivly?

I've been doing it for about 4 years as well. Only problems I've seen is when you need to call customer service for a company that is only available during work hours (peak minutes) ... and you're on hold forever. But now that I am working, I can take care of some of those in the office. Other than that it saves me $$.

Did away with the land line after buying new house and having TelCo (SBC) tell me it was going to be about $100 just to have the switch thrown. It's worked great for my wife and me, the only issue is trying to dial 911.

i havent had a land line in 4 years.
it has caused problems for me in opening bank accounts and getting cc's, bc those companies use a phone bill or phone listing to establish residence. this is just an established tradition, but it causes a hassle.

whats your home phone number? I dont have one
do you have any utilitie bills in your name? no, i rent
sorry, there is nothing we can do for you. what about a lease? or mail addressed to me?
no, we need a phone number or a utility bill

i have had that conversation way too many times. hopefully they will get their heads out of their asses soon.

What's the issue with 911?

since they cant know where you are, it defaults you to the 911 dispatcher thats closest to where your phone originates from. so, if youre far away from home (for example) and use your cell phone to call 911, you could have some problems.

I do it, not by choice but because I'm on something of a budget.

It works out if you a) have reception everywhere in your home, b) don't need a fax, and c) never break or drop your cell phone, and can get it repaired within a day if you do.

I'm doing it.

My roommate and myself just use our cells.

We have cable modem for our Internet. Only issue was our DirecTV needed a phone line to get the Tivo updates but I just hacked it and added a NIC so it does the updates through the Internet now.

So far so good though, I don't see the sense in paying for a land line when all I ever use is my cell anyways.

My friend does it and his brother would, but Comcast cable requires a landline.

I have Comcast and don't need a land line, why would a cable company require this?

WTH? I've had Comcast in Oklahoma and Washington, and never needed a landline. I haven't had a landline in 4 years.

One other negative of not having a landline (a minor one to me) is that you can't use Tivo without it (unless they've added the ability to get program info over the cable, which they haven't as far as I know).
