Anybody cut hair here? Amateurishly?

It's an emergency and I need to cut somebody's hair, I've never done it before - any advice?

There are some clippers, would it be difficult w/ clippers? Anybody who cuts their own hair or anything of that sort - any advice would be very much appreciated!

Thx

Wow I was gonna post something about where to get some guide combs for clippers! Anyone know where?

*edit* I'm looking to start cutting my own hair, but I need a really big guide comb... like at least 1 1/2" (that's the biggest I've heard of so far, and it's still a little too short for my liking). Anyways, I guess the only advice I have is to use a guide comb snapped onto the clipper and to just start off with the biggest one you've got, then keep incrementing to a smaller one 'til the guy's ok w/ how it looks. That's what I would do... hehe.
Is it some sort of hair-cutting emergency?

Hehe, when i lived at home about 15 years ago, my mom was so cheap she bought one of those "Flowbee's". It totally destroyed my hair. Those of you old enough to remember know what i'm talking about...

Yep, it's an emergency... not really, but somebody just wants me to do it for them, and I sort of want to experiment as well 🙂

When I was in grad school I used to cut my own hair using clippers, with decent results - as long as you use a guide and some care it is not that hard, and I can't believe it would not be FAR easier to cut another person's hair. Realistically the person should be psychologically prepared for a haircut that is not the world's greatest - after all, people go to school to do this!

lol
it takes a lot of practice to cut hair...i do it alright, but took a while to get to this point

Actually, I've been cutting my own hair since 95. I've went through a few different styles too. My hair is long now, but it used to be short and spikey. Short hair was a pain because I'd have to buzz it about every 3-4 weeks because my hair is very straight and it would stick out funny. Although I haven't cut others' hair too much, I'm always confident doing my own.

What type of haircut do you have to give this guy? With clippers, I give it a good once over and touch it up a lot with scissors. Fades requires steady hands, but scissors are always key.

Here are a couple of pics of me with different hair... haha.

I cut my own hair. Of course, it's dramatically simplified by the fact that I only use one guide over my whole head. But hey, I haven't paid for a haircut in 2 years!

I can't find a barber or beauty supply place near me w/ a #12 guide comb 🙁
1 1/2" on top is just about right for me. Can I buy one from you guys? 🙂

Have your friend go to Supercuts and borrow one. I'm sure they'll let him have it if he puts down an $8 deposit.
They might even have a "Haircuts for Dummies" book behind the cash register.😀

I've been cutting my own hair for over 8 years, and it is very easy. If you are cutting a hairstyle with really short hair on the sides then a clipper with a guide (since you are a newbie) would be the best. Start off with a large guide and then go smaller until you like the way the cut looks. If you plan on cutting the top portion of the hair I recommend a pair of scissors with teeth, which are used to thin and shape hair. Be sure to wet the hair before cutting as it cuts down on the mess and makes it easier to cut clumps of hair.

When cutting the sides go from the bottom up making sure that you keep the sides straight, do not follow the curve of the head! You want to create what is called a fade where the hair gradually goes from short to long. Always step back a few feet from the head and see if everything looks okay, being close up sort of distorts your view.

just don't cut it too short to where they cannot go to a pro can get it fixed! Ha, my wife has been cutting my hair for a while. She has gotten real good. The first couple of times was iffy and I had to wear a hat until I could sneak off to the hair cuttery and get it fixed. I like to keep it short and get it cut at least once a month. Heck, it saves $12.

It isnt TOO hard. My friend used to cut my hair, but he's too buzy now.

Its always easier if you dont have to cut too much, just a trim. I would suggest you get some practice just touching it up before you do and real cutting...

ever since I found the 4.99$ Great Clips coupons floating around (expire feb 28th) i've been getting more and more haircuts... used to get one every two weeks at 15$ a pop at great clips but now I do about 1 1/2 week... I always get a 0 on the sides but for some reason my hair just grow out so fast that after awhile I look retarded... my older sister used to cut my hair but back then I was shaving it all off and that's not too hard to do 🙂
