Hey All,

I'm looking to lower my cellphone bill. I used to be adamate about having an all inclusive plan so I never worried about overages and could use data however I wanted. Over the past year or so, my dependence on data has been reduced greatly with the amount of wifi available. Since my gf and I moved it together, we don't text or call each other nearly as often. It looks like if I sign up with Ting, I can port my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 over easily (phone number too) and I would continue using the Sprint network as I currently do.

With Sprint, I'm currently paying about $85 per month after taxes and fees. According to my last 6 months of usage, I'd only pay $40-$50 with Ting. I'm out of contract with Sprint, and a coworker said he used it recently until his mom got a new job at AT&T and put him on her plan. He said even if it saves $10 per month, I should do it because Ting is a better provider than sprint (customer service wise) and my coverage and performance won't change.

Thoughts?

I use GSM Ting.

First month with a credit was ~$23 for me. My second month is more indicative, and it looks like it'll cost around $55. Which is $40 less than I had on T-Mobile.

My coverage is about the same, since I believe Ting uses T-Mobile for GSM. Speeds are good.

I haven't used their CS outside of some FAQ pages to get things set up. They are very clear and easy to understand. MMS is a bit wonky at times, but their GSM service is also still pretty new.

Hopefully someone with a CDMA phone can better answer your questions. As for customer service, I think a hobo throwing feces at you is better than Sprint.

Ting has better customer service than Sprint...and higher ratings/"value"

Sprint is dead last

Among the smaller carriers in our Ratings of traditional (aka postpaid) cell service are Consumer Cellular, which stands out for value, data service, and customer support, and Ting, which scored high for value and data service.

The biggest black eye of our survey is reserved for Sprint, which ranks dead last with a very poor score for value, a poor score on data service, and middling results for voice and text.
