Yep. Spent three days there in summer 2002.
Useful web site.
I was traveling through Europe on a Eurail pass, so I just used that to get to Barcelona. I took a (
Trasmediterranea) ferry from there to Ibiza, and if I remember correctly, that cost around 250 ? round-trip. You leave Barcelona around 10:00 PM in the evening and arrive at Ibiza Town around 7:00 AM the next morning.
I stayed at a hostel somewhere in Ibiza town, either a one- or two-star. Check out
La Marina Hostel or
Vara de Rey Hostel as starting points. Depending on which time of year you go, expect to pay somewhere between 25 and 40 ? per night. The island is packed with small hotels so I am sure you could find cheaper accommodations once you got there. Families often rent out rooms to tourists for far less but you have to search them out. The advantage to the two I mention is that they are in-town and centrally located to a lot of stuff. (Of course, MUCH MORE expensive and luxurious accomodations are available if you are so inclinded.)
When I was there, I primarily used a taxi to get around, but there are buses and moped rentals. But I would stick to public transportation if you plan on staying out to get drunk. I spent an average of 15 ? per cab ride. The island is not that huge, so the cab rides can't be too long. Getting to the beaches is most practical by bus. For clubs, I'd used a taxi.
Ibiza has seven
main clubs where the clubbers tend to congregate. The entrance fee tends to be 45-50 ? (at the door) per club and once you're in, you can only leave and come back once. You can get that entree fee down to 30-35 ? depending on where you buy tickets on the street. Once you're in, expect to PAY OUT THE ASS, especially for drinks: 7 ? for a small bottle of water, 10 ? for a beer, 15 ? for a small alcoholic drink.
Use the
Party Calendar to find the DJ or DJs you HAVE to hear and go see them at the big clubs. Otherwise, you can have just as much fun walking into a much cozier, small city or beach club. Believe me when I say that THERE ARE TURNTABLES EVERYWHERE with music being CONSTANTLY spun!
I found food in general to be on the expensive side with cheap meals costing around 5 ? for the bare minimum. Remember, Ibiza is an exotic tourist trap. Costs can be cut a little by sticking to super markets. In fact, when I left club Space for my one-allowed departure, I went and loaded up on the most potent alcohol I could find, and that was a FAR cheaper solution than buying in the club.
In terms of planning activities, other then researching the DJs and going to hear them, don't plan on anything specific.
Now, here is my very abbreviated Ibiza story:
7:00 AM, Sunday: Arrive on ferry
8:30 AM, Sunday: Check into hostel
10:00 AM, Sunday: Arrive at
Club Space
4:00 AM, Monday Morning: Depart Club Space
11:00 AM, Monday Morning: Arrive at beach with lots of HAWT TOPLESS WOMEN
11:00 PM, Monday Night: Arrive at
Club Privilege
7:00 AM, Tuesday Morning: Depart Club Privilege
Tuesday Afternoon: Mess around Ibiza Town
Tuesday Evening: Depart via Ferry to Barcelona.
There is a reason I went to Space and Privilege on those particular nights as each major club has its own main club night, one for each night of the week. Again, use the web site info I have provided to research when and where things are going on. (Each club is open throughout the week, but each has only one major party night per week.)
Club Space was just nutz. Everyone dressed in something whacky, going totally crazy, representing the extreme diversity of personalities there. I heard Sasha spin live that night. Lots of drugs and "X" floating around.
Club Privilege is the largest club on the planet. Think of that biosphere in Arizona turned into a club. Just this giant glass thing with swimming pools and stuff. The DJ, some no-name but excellent, was suspended over the pools and the main dance floor would expand over the water as the club got more crowded. Eventually, a trapeze started, so as you danced, you had half-naked women twirling fire above you. Truly the most amazing night of clubbing in my life. That night was called Manumission.
As you can see from my schedule above, there was little time for sleep. In fact, most people I met there hadn't slept for 3 or 4 days straight. The island is literally a non-stop party from the exotic, warm beaches during the day to the clubs at night, ALL NIGHT! Or you can skip the beaches and club 24/7, but the beaches, with those hawt topless women and the warm, crystal-clear blue water, are quite nice!
PM me with any more questions!
Edit: BTW, you WILL feel weird at some of those clubs. Even as a geek who loves ATOT, you will appear to be TOO normal in the presence of some of the nut jobs at those clubs. Also, expect to feel outclassed as there are MANY rich and beautiful people who vacation there.
