Anybody actually used a Gigabyte i-RAM? Needs opinion...

Somebody's selling me a used Gigabyte i-RAM, with 4 sticks x 1gb 266DDR. The SDD inserted on PCI slot read by system as HDD. I knew this is a rare item, considering only 1,000 were produced for test-market...worlwide? No update since then.

I want to use it as main drive with XP Home, and use most of the time in gaming. Per reviews, it's rated to load fast...in nano seconds (not just milliseconds as HDD do). My storage drive is a 40g MAxtor 72k.

Before I buy it, have anyone actually used it (not just from reviews), Any second opinion other than the original seller is appreciated.

That's a 4GB hard drive. You can't fit more than a stripped Windows installation on it. As soon as something goes just a little wrong, you've lost everything on the "drive". For performance, it should shave a few seconds off of boot times, and page file access will be a tick quicker, but that's all.

It will load your windows quicker, but will still need to load games off of the storage hd so the speed at which games load will be limited by your hdd still. It would probrably be better and cheaper if you get more system ram, like at least 1.5 GB if not more and then remove your paging file all together, I did that in the past and it does make quite a difference, XP will not have to use a paging file it will just put everything into your real ram which will prob be faster then 266ddr.

What's your purchase timeline? I have not "actually used a Gigabyte i-RAM" but I did just purchase two of them (raid-0 for 8GB) and can tell you sometime next week (build time permitting) what my opinion is.
