Any word on SimCity 5?

I got the urge to reinstall SimCity4 Deluxe the other day, and it's still as fun as I remember. Of course, it still doesn't run well and crashes a lot, being buggy as ever.

It's seven years old though, and I'm wondering if they're ever going to make a new SimCity game. Societies doesn't count.

Only problem I ever really have with SC4 is not being able to save the really large maps.
That can be solved though by setting your PageFile to twice your Physical RAM.

As long as EA has the IP my guess would be no. Too complex to be worth the effort is what they would think, itll take another will wright to create the next great citybuilder, somone who wants to make a game for reasons other than money. Look how cities XL turned out, they wanted some of that MMO money pie but it bit the dust pretty fast because the game just wasent there.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed in Societies, especially since I really liked Caesar IV by the same development house. But that style just didn't work for Simcity.

As far as a real Simcity 5.... Requires an attention span longer than 5 seconds == can't sell it to console gamers == EA's not interested.

Especially since Will Wright left and Maxis doesn't even really exist anymore, I think the SimCity name is done. Maybe a good 'indie' city builder will come out of nowhere though (like the original SimCity), but after Cities XL I'm less optimistic about that too for the near future.

It's a shame. I still remember how excited I got when I got SimCity as a birthday present when I was 10 or so. I played the hell out of that game in all it's B&W glory (didn't have a VGA computer when I first got it). Even my dad, who doesn't play video games at all other than the occasional Tetris, played it a little bit. I remember laughing because his nuclear PP melted down.

SC4 was great but made 10000x better with all the fan made mods out there. There is an enormous amount of player-made buildings and mods. NAT is a must-have because it fixes a lot of the design flaws in how the game computes commuter routes.

A sim city game on a scope like Sim City 4 will cost too much money for the small market it commands. Unless they can figure out how to develop that type of game with a realistic budget, you won't see it any time soon.
Right now the developers are concentrating on products for larger markets like The Sims because those are the only types of games publishers are willing to spend money on.

So true. :(

Yea... EA will look at Societies and Cities XL and just say "pass" when it comes to SC5. Major thanks to the simplicity console demands. Now that Will Wright's gone too, that just doesn't help at all.

I just picked the game up recently again and got about 1.5GB of addons and still LOVE IT! Still, it saddens me that we won't see a new one.

I still own the SNES version of SimCity, not that I play it - even occasionally - I almost never touch it, but that's not out of hatred, I just never tried any other SimCity games above SimCity 3000, not exactly my type of game I guess, but I remember having fun for hours non-top in that version (SNES), if I recall correctly I even got a Mario statue for some achievement.

SimFarm or Capitalism 3 please

SimFarm was awesome! Back then Maxis games were fun and not mathematical headaches you had to figure out to play.

hmm I was just check on the availability of SimFarm when I came across SimLife. I don't remember that game at all, but it's described as being like a deity game which sound pretty cool.

They know a Sims expansion that includes 5 new outfits, hairstyles and a bathroom decor set will sell 10 times better than any full Sim City title.

I judge games on their merits, not on some cry-baby notion of how I feel about a publisher.

Ignoring business practices completely, EA hasn't made even one remotely decent game in years. Why would they randomly start now?
