any word on Intel X-25M G3?

I'm incredibly disappointed in the G3 Intel SSDs. It really seems as though they're hitting some sort of technology wall. I was hoping for $1/gb SSDs in the near future, but I'm starting to wonder now.

I have no idea when they're coming out, but I'm not exactly eagerly anticipating them at this point.

I heard mid April launch for the G3s.

They will be cheaper per GB, but will not be much faster than the G2s and still on SATA II.

I will be going to Vertex 3 until Intel puts out a good, fast SATA III drive. It kills me to do so since I really do not respect OCZ as a company.

If Anandtech is right, we'll get 2x capacity for same price, so you'd want to wait for it anyway, but performance might not be top.

50k read and 40k write random performance seems really good. However since they opted for a 3rd party controller for the extreme line, either that number is too optimistic or beyond a certain point random numbers mean jack.

Still I'd like a 300GB for $400 though.

so for those with sata2 it makes sense to wait and see how G3 will turn out rather than jumping on g2 sales (unless the sale is too good :>)

Which SSD to buy is really getting to be too much work. Glad I have my NOVA as I would not know what to buy now. There is always something coming, and Intel, the natural choice is either absurdly late or long in the tooth, comparatively speaking. Sheesh, what the heck to do?

C300? Wait for C400? G2??? G3?????? OCZ, I think not.

Having bought an Intel 510 250GB drive recently for my new 2011 MBP, I can honestly say: You have nothing to worry about. Everything I do on it is stupid fast. Boot times, app loads, file copies/transfers and the like are all near instant.

Unless you're doing something that'll totally exploit the relatively low random performance (is it going in a server?), there's nothing wrong at all with using the 510. Don't let synthetic benchmarks stop you from enjoying the quality and reliability of a good Intel SSD.

That's exactly what I want.

So far we've been getting the "same price (or even higher), better performance" next-gen SSDs. "Same performance, better price" side of Moore's law is the side I prefer. I'm cheap.
