Any word on high-end AGP coming to the market?

You're going to have to go PCI-E and get something fast. The x800xt PE wasn't cutting it for me at the native res of 1920x1200 but the x1800xt handles it quite well.

7800GS will be a minor improvement from the X800XT.

You're in the same shoes i was a bit ago.

Get a PCI-e mobo & X1800XT & be glad 😉

Looks like i'll have to do more of an overhaul than I want to...looks like I must wait until summer 06 to do anything...

At least I have the conversion of my 2nd computer from a normal pc case to HTPC case to keep me busy until then? 😕 😀

ATi is releasing a whole new line up - NEXT week!

the x1700 is expected to be much faster than the x1600 . . . a 7800GS from nVidia is in the works for next month . . .

you can wait or do the entire makeover 😉

i just got an x850xt cause my 9800xt died 2 weeks ago . . . i would have waited. . . . at least to see . . . 😉

Definatly go PCI-E. Forget AGP all together.

With a monster screen like that you're going to need a lot of GPU power to play games at the native res. Eventually you're going to run out of AGP options, that is if there are going to be anymore AGP options worth the money at all.

Dont dump anymore money into AGP because a generation or two from now there are going to be no AGP cards that are going to be able to drive that monitor.

Just bite the PCI-E bullet, it'll be cheaper in the long run.

so I play the wait game. yipee

either bite the PCIe bullet now or wait.

Matt2 is basically right . . . but a $200 AGP card that is twice as fast as your 9800p might be an attractive "stopgap" solution till you can afford your 'makeover' this Summer. 😉

whatever you do . . . check Hot Deals regularly and stop back here occasionally to see what's 'new' over the next few weeks
[Hot Deals is where i found my $200 after MIR x850xt]

we don't know for sure . . . we DO know [for sure] there is an "improved" x1600 in AGP [which is NO improvement over the x850xt] and we are expecting a even faster x1700 . . . it stands to reason there will be an x1700 in AGP - what else will go up against the AGP 7800GS?

😉
