Any word on a newer version of Xbox from Microsoft?

The "updated" PS2 has progressive DVD playback and I was wondering if Microsoft has anounced any plans of following suit. Also, is there a revamped smaller svelte Xbox version in the works?

Microsoft spent a lot of money developing the xbox. It would be stupid of them to redesign it so soon. You realize that the goal is to make money off of it.

The Z-box? The X^2 box? I really don't care about what features it has when it comes out, I'm just dying to know what the hell they're gonna name it. ;D

This is kind of like ricers. They are adding a bunch of crap to something that doesnt really make it any better, but it does look better. <sarcasm> Woohoo, progressive scan. Woohooo. </sarcasm>

Bottom line, it is still a ps2 that the graphics will not be improved on.

I do think it looks pretty sweet and am awaiting to see what sony actually allows all these new features to do, like backing up games to the hard drive and getting rid of load times would be nice.

MS is really safe, but an upgrade to the hard drive would be nice.

er... the current one has progressive scan. the new one will, supposedly, have 1080 progressive, which is a format that *almost* no tv's support. just the super high end plasma's and 1 sony.

The original never had progressive scan. The recently released revision supports progressive scan.

But dont forget they can implement self destruct technology on it. Or depending on what level of ownaship you have. Then it turns out that its not going to be that bad in terms of remembering when you should return what stuff you rented. Hmmm, I guess thats just one way to look at it. Or you can look at it the ugly way, no more free stuff 🙁 And we are no longer in control and what not BS, ops how about just not doing anything that involves technology.

Calm down little boy. Everything will be alright.

Those self destructing DVDs Disney will put out may not ever see the light of day at BB. The core of rental places like BB is that when you return stuff you usually go inside and rent something else. If you never have to return a rented movie/game, why would you go back as a repeat customer?

they're probably working all the time to consolidate the internal electronics to make it cheaper for them to manufacture.

Er not really. Microsoft is more trying to develop a user base, get a foothold of the market, and more or less learn from the X-Box. They lose money off the X-Box.

Right.. so make more money off it. Focus on software for a while longer. Maybe a few minor changes, but a complete rebuild?

Exactly, i was already under the impression that they were losing money on each Xbox. Might as well create something possibly smaller and cheaper to produce.
