Looking for some suggestions. Just had the whiskey from Lost in Translation, the one Bill Murray was doing a commericial for. So something within that price range or more would be good. Looking for all kinds of strengths and tastes :) whats good out there and why please.

Scotch IS Whiskey.

Not in reference to the OP, he is speaking of bourbon, and it's spelled 'whisky' for 99.9% of the brands out there.

I was referring to single malt scotch.

I'm a big fan of The Glenlivet 15 or 30.

The 12 is nice if you're on a budget, very smooth pleasent finish.

Do like me. I went on a trip to Edinburgh and visited the fine brewing establishments. Sampled quite a bit. Good times. ;)

I'm far from a connoissour ... and usually I'm into Bourbans, I regularly drink Jim Beam and am happy with it. Though when I want something really good, I'll pay more for Makers Mark.
When it comes to scotch, J & B isn't bad, and it's pretty fairly priced. Otherwise JW is good, though I can't afford Blue Label (Have a bottle of Black Label downstairs though.)
I don't drink Cognac (never really liked it)
Only Canadian Whisky I've drank is Seagrams v0 Canadian, and I'm pleased with it.

keep em coming guys. side questions, which do you prefer, whiskey or whisky, and why?
for an astute definition i googled it

Alcohol made from grain (malted or not) which is produced in Scotland is called WHISKY while it is called WHISKEY if it is produced in USA or Ireland.

American whiskey is called Bourbon, and is made from grain (at least 51% corn (maize))
The Scotch whisky is generally double distilled, while Irish whiskey is generally distilled three times.

not really 100% true with the spelling ... since some Kentuky bourbans spell it without the e.
Look at Makers Mark for instance ....
