Any web tools good for students?

Is there any kind of tool that you can put your class schedule in, work assignment due dates, grades and will manage all those things for you?

My college has something similar to that... blackboard...

As for doing what you need, just get a stickie program and post a bunch all over your desktop.

Blackboard sucks...it's really not that great a piece of software.

I used blackboard a bit when I went to school. It wasn't available for all my classes.

I'm not in school any longer but I have a friend taking classes now. When I was in school I kept track of all my grades by using an excel sheet with the percentages filled in for the possible grades I could get(from the syllabus). I was thinking this could be an easy thing to put into a web tool along with some kind of feature to email you when assignments are close to being due so you don't forget.

I think if I would have had something like that available when I was in school it might have got me started on projects a bit earlier if I programming it to harass me daily.

Again, I'm not interested in how you did it in the old days or how simple a piece of paper is, I want to know if anyone knows of a tool like this. I thought I remembered reading about something like this somewhere but I haven't been able to find it by googling.

If you really want to know a good way... it's nothing short of a corporate helpdesk. Anytime you get an assignment, put it in as a ticket, and assign a deadline to it or something. I close tons of support tickets daily, and have a separate one for my own things, it's a great way for me to keep track of things.

If you're interested in something like this, drop me a PM and I'll show you screenshots of mine. It's not free, but if it's what works for you, it'll be great.

This is complete overkill, and the post below is probably a much better way of doing this.

Google Calendar?

If you think a bit, it's probably a good tool. Color Code your classes, setup exams, quizzes, papers, important dates. Everything can be color coded. If it's really important, you can have it text your cell phone. Add social events, if you want, add study hours, limitless.

or you can always use the old fashion pencil / paper ... calendar.

agreed.

http://www.basecamphq.com/ might work, but it is the top-tier product that might end up being too confusing

http://www.backpackit.com/ is probably more atune to what you want (same company)

I sort of made my own before I discovered backpackit

Finally, create a portal for yourself with all this info if you frequently have internet access.

http://home.wisetyro.com/ is one of mine. As you can see if I have gcal integrated, and while that is a demo site, the calender continues to update (for summer semester)

or my solution as others have elaborated on as well:

Google

-gmail + forward to free exchange server for puch mail for communication
-gcal for all my appointments and such. Create one for work, one for school, one for play time "lol-ish") etc and access them via your cellhpone or use a utility like oggsync to have them sent to your phone's calander. PHone beeps me ~10-15min before every appointment, every class, etc

-gdocs-.....better than nothing..and it keeps everything in one place.

Obviously my solution is complicated as hell in setup, but once it's up and running, it's a dream.

The key is to mange IT. Otherwise you don't get anything out of it. YOu ahve to stick with it, updatign it etc

Keep this in mind, and I say this as it has been one of my pitfalls as well as a potential pitfall for others:

This is and will remain an archetype for what you have to do, as IT won't actually take care of your tasks...it will simply lay the cards out in front of you on demand telling you what you told it to remember.

blah blah blah...I have to get back to work😱
