Any way to get Quake 2 onto my machine without it crashing every time I try to launch the single player? The sound stays on, but theres no game. I have Windows XP, and a 3200+ and 2 6600GT's.

I installed Q2 on my P4 3.2C with 6800 and XP Pro last November and had no problems.

Did you get the 3.20 patch and install it? It also removes the CD check.

Isn't there a setup applet? Try running that

If Software Rendering isn't working something is really wrong.

For hardware (OpenGL) rendering, maybe you're exceeding the max resolution for this engine. Try 800x600.

If all else fails you can always use some alternate executable such as r1q2. Sure there are probably several others out there, that's just the 1st that popped into my head. Been several years now since I played Q2 so I havn't kept up with the latest & greatest so to speak.

I copied my Q2 install folder to a CD years ago and have been copying it back to my HD after any new storage upgrade or reformat. I've never had any problem with it.

Also, Q2 Evolved is the shiznit.

look for the opengl32.dll libray in your c:\windows\system32 directory, and copy it directly intor your quake 2 directory. There is probably an opengl32.dll file in there already so make sure you copy and rename it before you put the one from your system32 folder in there.

If that doesn't work I'd say you probably selected the wrong opengl driver, perhaps the powervr, driver?

let me know if this helps
