Any way to use HDMI on the 360 w/o using the MS accessory?

Just bought an Arcade at a Circuit City liquidation sale. Plan to use it as my main box now since it has HDMI but I'm wondering if I have to buy the $40 Microsoft cable or if there is some way to just use an HDMI cable I have lying around already.

It's a regular HDMI port. Use whatever you want. If you need to use the optical sound output on the AV thingy, there is a how-to somewhere to remove the case of it so you have enough room to use the HDMI and the AV thingy.

Does your arcade version have an HDMI port on the back of the console? If so, just plug it into the television and you should be fine.

If not, there is no other way to really convert the signal short of buying the HDMI cable from them.

Maybe you could get away with a receiver that takes in component, and throws out a signal via HDMI?

Yep, I broke the housing on the AV cable and am happily chugging along with Optical and HDMI. 🙂

I think I'll have to look into this as my receiver is nice but a bit old and doesn't support HDMI... gracias!

I just did that mod this weekend, pretty easy and worked perfectly.

I then had the problem of my xbox restarting if my TV got the input switched (HDMI handshaking caused the xbox to restart). If you have that same problem do the following:

-Pry open up the plug that goes into your xbox and cut the black wire that is connected looped back to the connector. (there is a another black wire that goes from the connector to the circuit board, dont cut that one).
-Fit the metal housing back on, much sure the switch is in the non-HD TV mode setting and you can have optical audio out and hdmi picture without your xbox restarting during TV input changes.
