any way to use a dsl router for cable?

I can get my hands on a free Flowpoint DSL router, and I have cable access at home. Can I somehow convert this thing or use it as is for my cable connection? I'd love to be able to use this thing to share my connection with 2 other pc's and use the built in firewall features. I know I could BUY a Linksys or Netgear for $150 but....

if its a DSL Modem/Router combo like the flowpoint 2200 then the answer is probably no, since it would route everything out the WAN (ie DSL) port which is not compatible with the protocol cable modems use on the wan side..might be able to use it for a hub perhaps and some of the other feature though on the LAN side
