Any way to throttle the client's cpu usage?

My cpu temp (300a @ 450) rises to 125*F with the client running and finally locks up. W/o the client running it's a cool 85 - 90*F.

Is there there a way to cut cpu usage back a little? I'm running Win98se (soon will be dual-booting Win2k).

Thx 😎

if your system cant handle running RC5, you have overclocked too far, or have inadequate cooling. Either take your CPU down a notch, or invest in some better ventilation / fans / heatsinks / thermal paste / etc.

Well, with the case off it runs great with RC5 (days at a time w/o going above 110*F). I'd leave it off, but the wife would send me and my computers to the doghouse 😉

I hate to step down below 100Mhz FSB or I'll be straining my PCI and AGP busses.

That leaves better cooling as my only alternative. I'm going to stick a beefy case fan or two in there and see what happens.

Thanks!

if it runs fine with the case off then ventilation is the issue, besides just putting some hefty fans in there, try tidying up your cables, look in the Cases & Cooling Forum for some FAQ'a on how to round off your IDE cables to allow better airflow.

I agree ,better cooling is definatly the way to go 🙂.BTW make sure that your PSU fan is exhausting (& not drawing in) ,check it with a small piece of paper
Keep us posted

Yep, it's exhausting (in more ways than one 😉).

I remember seeing the cable rounding somewhere - I'll try it. And of course a fan or two.

Thanks again! These are great comments.
