Any way to test my hard drives?

ok, maybe it has to do with the rails on the case being rubbish? but they still seem rather slow and it needs to pause sometimes before the hard drives chunters along.

I have 1 WD 4000YR in sata1 port and 1 WD 4000YR in sata 2 port

with an Asus A8N-E motherboard, 2G crucial ram, 4200 X2 AMD processor
