Any way to test if a stain is blood?

No, I'm not some serial killer. Got a suspicious looking stain at the house, hard to tell if it is blood or not. I've heard Hydrogen Peroxide may do it but not sure if that would work on an older stain?

Prick your finger and bleed on the spot. If it feels really good, it's blood.

What is the goal here? Is this something you need to make sure is cleaned so that the FBI can't identify it as blood or are you just cleaning and want to make sure you get all of whatever this is cleaned off of whatever surface is stained?

Just want to know what type of stain it is so i can try and remove it. It's stubborn as hell.

Can't, it's in a corner of the house itself in the carpet. So i take it that since i can't remove it for hell, it probably is blood. Didn't realise it was so hard to remove.

Probably just from some decomposed body buried beneath the floor boards. Happens all the time.

Heavy shears or scissors are pretty good at cutting carpet.

But in all seriousness, I dont know how to say for sure if it is blood, and im not sure why it matters either. I just know that blood is hard as hell to clean up, so, one way you can be certain that it is NOT blood is to clean it. If its blood, the stain will still be there.

Of course if its ketchup or paint or poop or many other things, the stain might stay there too.... So its not a good test for "is this blood", but, it might be a way to remove blood from the list of suspects.

Do you have access to carpet shampooer? Try some oxiclean and scrub a dub dub ... might come out...

We have cats, they puke a lot, all over the place... so gross!

This.

"Probably blood. Help me remove it." CSI, 48 Hours and Snapped says you're not getting away with killing your ex-cross dressing lover.

Actually try the peroxide. Cut myself shaving and have a dried spot on the collar of a shirt. It worked.

Luminol.

EDIT: If you want to remove most stains use simple dishwashing liquid. Put some water in a tub, add dishwashing liquid, then soak the stained item for a few hours. You can also add some oxyclean.

Nope...Enzyme based cleaners are what the "clean up" people use all the time.

Luminol and black lights work well to find blood...(among other things).
Good to know. Just in case....
Arm and Hammer works better.
Haven't tried that but I'll put it on the costco list. Sweat, stains, plus whatever a 14 y.o. gets on his clothes, I'd like to eliminate in the wash.

The secret is to saturate the stain and let stand for 15 minutes.
