Just got my 1800x and mobo (excited but no cooler yet). Noticed cpu says "Made in Malaysia." Would that give a hint as to whether this is GloFo, Samsung, etc? Just curious...
Is there a chance to find such info in the data matrix code?Take a better look.
All of them say "Diffused in USA, Made in China" or "Diffused in USA, Made in Malaysia".
"Made in" simply refers to the location where the final assembly was done.
Older AMD CPUs were diffused in Germany and assembled either in Malaysia or China.
Both GlobalFoundries and Samsung have fabs in US, so even if the actual silicon was sourced from both of them it is impossible for the end-user to tell which one.
If the silicon is infact manufactured by both of them, only the ones with access to the production database could tell the difference.
Is there a chance to find such info in the data matrix code?
No. The matrix code contains the same information as the heatspreader plain text.
Smell them, if they smell like horses they were made at Fab 8
(used to work at Saratoga Race Track).
The Fishkill fab (fab 10) is about 45 minutes north of me. I'm tempted to drive up there and see if I can catch a whiff of freshly baked chips in the morning.![]()
