Any way to tell which Fab a Ryzen came from?

Just got my 1800x and mobo (excited but no cooler yet). Noticed cpu says "Made in Malaysia." Would that give a hint as to whether this is GloFo, Samsung, etc? Just curious...

According to wiki, none of the major players have a fab in Malaysia. I'm pretty sure they do the assembly/final manufacturing of the CPUs in Malaysia but the actual silicon is fabbed elsewhere.

Short answer, no.

Maybe if somebody figures out what steppings/binnings come from what fabs, we might be able to figure it out but I don't think we know yet.

Edit: This seems to imply they're from GloFo.

Take a better look.

All of them say "Diffused in USA, Made in China" or "Diffused in USA, Made in Malaysia".

"Made in" simply refers to the location where the final assembly was done.
Older AMD CPUs were diffused in Germany and assembled either in Malaysia or China.

Both GlobalFoundries and Samsung have fabs in US, so even if the actual silicon was sourced from both of them it is impossible for the end-user to tell which one.
If the silicon is infact manufactured by both of them, only the ones with access to the production database could tell the difference.

Is there a chance to find such info in the data matrix code?

No. The matrix code contains the same information as the heatspreader plain text.

You can read the Matrix Code?

The Fishkill fab (fab 10) is about 45 minutes north of me. I'm tempted to drive up there and see if I can catch a whiff of freshly baked chips in the morning. 😛

There is a slight irony to Fab 8 being near Saratoga, the birthplace of the Potato Chip 😀
