Any way to tell what a/c unit is on your car?

I can assume that my 91 Integra has an R12 unit since all cars after 1993 were supposed to have switched to R134; however the a/c in my car could've been converted to R134. Summer is on its way and I want to recharge the unit. Any way I can tell or would I have to take it to a shop?

Go look under the hood for a sticker mentioning it. IF the car was converted to R134A, the mechanic that did it should have put a sticker under the hood indicating so.

if there is no sticker. Look for the quick disconnect type fitting on the lines. If they are there its r134a. If they look like a tire valve stem then its R12.

Your car definitely came with R12. Now, even if it is filled with R134 chances are it wasn't done the "proper" way meaning there'd be no way to tell. Just take it to a shop. Regardless of what's in it they'll recover is and fix it right. Be prepared to pay tho. A/C work isn't cheap.

I'm thinking it's R12 also so I can just suffer with the "cold" air blowing in the hot, humid midwest summers. No point in paying an arm and a leg for older refill that'll harm the environment anyway.

you may not have to recharge the unit at all.. unless it's not working well/at all.

There's not cold air at all coming out. There hasn't been since I got the car. I got it during the fall last year and since it was getting cold, didn't bother to charge it.
