Again for those of you who say the fish is in the wrong proportion are WRONG. That is what that fish looks like. I have seen other photos of them.

there is no doubt the fish is a striper, i'm not trying to disprove that

i just need a good explanation that is in very light computer and/or technical terms

theNEOone makes the best argument so far, with the flash

well, it does LOOK photochopped, what with the hard edges and the weird contrast. Plus, the fish's position looks off if he's holding by the gills, which I would assume he is.

However, the fish was certified as a record, so he wouldn't need to fabricate a photo as proof... He might have just done some touching up in photoshop to enhance the contrast and stuff and that's what gave it the weird look.

And yes, the fish is the right proportions for a striped bass of about 50 pounds; I've seen a lot of them.

joemonkey, I think you might be on to something, actually. I knew something was fishy with the pic when I saw it, but I couldn't put my finger on it. I assumed it was just the weird lines and edges, but now that you mention it, the mouth should be open... I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a fish, especially being held like that, with it's mouth closed. it can happen though

i thought that was a combination of certian settings on the camera used as well special settings when saving the picture?

Look at the belly of the fish. It has what I like to call "crud lines" around the outside.

Also, 48 inches long? How tall is Capn' bob there? Lets say he's 6 feet tall, he looks like a big dude. 72 inches. We lose maybe 6-8 inches below the picture, and a few inches of fish. Lets say we can see 64 inches of him. Eyeballing his head, it's about a foot high. That makes a little over 52 inches of fish in the picture alone. This is actually believable on that method of argument.

But the crudlines and flash argument above is indisputable.

Virtually everything saves EXIF data now. Negative on EXIF. This image is either EXIF stripped or resized with non-EXIF software.

WinXP's Properties page for JPEGs has integrated EXIF reading, and there's plenty of software.
