I watch Netflix, Hulu, play games, etc on my Android.

Is there any way to stream it without any lag via a cord like USB to my laptop?

Samsung S4 and Asus laptop. I have an HDMI on the laptop - not sure if this would be of any use.

You'd need an external TV tuner or something equivalent. The HDMI port is only an output.

Why do you need to do this? If you're trying to run Android apps, you'd probably do better running an emulator within windows. If you need the internet access, look into tethering.

I know this is going to be an insanely crazy concept but bear with me here...how about you watch it on your laptop natively?

For some reason tethering doesn't seem to work worth a damn.

I have the T-Mo S4 and the built-in T-Mo tethering app simply does not work. And I can't find the WiFi Tether for Root Users app on the store because my device is filtered. I guess I'll go download the APK from somewhere and see how that works.

But honestly, the internet on the phone just *works*. I would be easier just to stream NetFlix or Hulu video stream from the Android to the laptop.

Settings>Wireless and Networks>More...>Tethering>Mobile Broadband Connect

It will be greyed out if you're not hooked up to a PC via USB.

Then just watch the videos/play games on the laptop.

Uhhh... that's for internet tethering. Not for streaming what's displayed on the screen of the phone to the screen of the laptop.

^he's saying get the wifi tethering working then you can just use your laptop to watch the vid.

Careful about your bandwidth usage. TMo only 5GB or so. Make sure you get adblock and uninstall flash player or make run-on-demand if you play to do much tethering.

If he does the streaming to the phone it's covered under T-Mobile's unlimited data.

For someone who lives like him that is quite compelling.

For TV/movie use HDMI capture lag shouldn't be too big an issue, but I'd expect gaming to suck. I wonder if anyone makes a laptop with HDMI input that is not tied to software - As in you can flip a switch and turn the laptop into a HDMI equipped TV.

The problem is that the laptop is just not built to be a device that accepts video inputs, as frustrating as that is.

Since you're on T-Mobile, and I'm guessing you're on either 2.5GB unlimited data, you should have 2.5GB of supported tethering. Calling T-Mobile support for why the tethering doesn't work is probably your best bet. A galaxy S4 should be supported, and it may be something as simple as needing a different SIM card.

If you would really rather just have an external monitor for your cell, though, you may have to buy a monitor specifically for that purpose.
