Any way to stop Google from logging me into Youtube?

I have a Gmail account, and one thing that bugged me is when I noticed it created a YouTube account for me. If I am logged out of the Gmail account (I don't tell it to stay signed in), I get to YouTube as signed out. But if I sign in to Gmail, follow a link to a "Reply to thread" email, and then click on a linked YouTube video, I am signed on. I shouldn't have to go back and sign out of my Gmail account to stop it from logging me into YouTube.

Any ideas?

nope, Google shoves on you Youtube, Google+, etc

just use a second browser or a different user session

While we're on the subject then, is there anything else it is shoving me into that I don't know about?

I use a mail client, so I never log into Gmail through the browser. I've been trying to get away from that anyway. I've been trialing Lavabit, and will soon get the paid service.

I actually found a workaround that seems to be working. I went ahead and put Thunderbird on the machine I use the most for gmail and follow my Anandtech forum links from there. When I follow a link to a YouTube video, I am still not logged on to YouTube.
