Just to give you an answer with a little more info... ;)

As indicated, get a GOOD quality Keyboard, Video, Mouse switch... I recommend Belkin. Also get VERY good quality video cables, or you'll lose video quality.

I have the Linksys KVM switch and it works very well. I've heard Belkin is also really good, but more expensive.

If your monitor has BNC connectors in addition to the regular DSUB connector, you can connect one of the computers to the BNC and one to the DSUB. This will save you some money because a good quality KVM switch will be over US$100 and a BNC cable should be around US$25-$30. The controls on the monitor are used to switch which connector is active. The only drawback is that Monitor Plug 'N Play is not available through the BNC connection (if you are using Win9x).

Check here for all your needs: http://www.cablesnmor.com/index.html

BTW I've been using their $25 KVM box (X884830) for years with BNC to my 19" monitor with no problems whatsoever. I did opt for the heavy duty cables between KVM & PCs, as I believe this is where the problems arise. :D

software sure?
if your just going to use the computer as like a mp3 player or server, you can just install pcAnywhere 9.2 (works on win9x, winNT, and win2k) Just hook ur monitor up install pcAnywhere on the computer you won't be using much. Then stick your monitor back on ur other computer, install pcAnywhere on that, connect to your other PC bam! It works VERY well, its just like your on that computer seriously. As long as you won't be playing any games or anything on that computer... Its pretty low bandwidth too.. Ive used it over the net, i can connect to my computer and run it fine over 56k connect as long as your in low-res...

I have it installed on all my computers, its great, has some good security features too. just make sure the computer your using to remote other computers with is at least same or better resolution. so u don't have to scroll around and stuff.

i dunno about you, but i wouldn't use a kvm switch either if i was playing games on both at the same time... I'd buy another monitor!
