I want to do a memory test on my ram cuz i've been getting random BSODs. But my laptop doesn't have a floppy drive.

Is ther anyway to run memtest86 from a usb key, or anything like it that can run from usb?

Can't you run it from a bootable cd?

EDIT: Hrm, no floppy and no CD. Does your laptop support booting from USB devices? I know some of the newer Intel motherboards do it.

i don't have a cdrom either, its a ultraportable laptop (thinkpad X31)

i have an optical drive in an external enclosure at school but i didn't bring it home cuz i just mount a network cd drive

I'm not sure if you've tried this, but make sure your RAM is seated properly 🙂

You might want to also make sure the cpu cooling fan is working and
you aren't overheating on the laptop.

fan is working fine, it will spin up if the temps hit 60C.

I've notiched the fan spins up more often now, but I am in California for the summer

I'm hoping to pin down this problem, i will reimage the HD if I can't find any hardware problems
