Any way to "revive" a fried portable usb jump drive????

Welp...............title splains it all..........My 512mb Lexar USB Jumpdrive........no workie. I figured it out *after* I noticed the wires were on backwards for the front panel usb header..........grrrrrrrrrr!

Any tricks???

You can't plug USB header in backward, there's a blocked pin in the header to prevent this. Did you use a hammer to bang the header into the mobo port?

Oh it's quite simple to plug in backwards.............

Grnd

Switch VCC & Grnd pins &..............NO BUENO!!

Ya, the blocked pin stuff is for very few cases out there. Mostly higher end but I've even seen 'em on lower end stuff too, however most cases come w/ 4 individual pins......(usually x 2 for a couple front headers) and you HAVE to get 'em right or else you risk the device.

I just never though *I'D* do it!! Grrrrrrrrrr!!!

I've taken my jumpdrive apart, but can't even see *what* exactly fried?????

You can if the case has individual pins, versus a modular plug. I really don't know why some case manufacturers still do the individual pins, especially as the usb pin order has been set in stone for more than a few years now, but some do. Really dumb of them, imho.

Sorry to hear you lost a jump drive, OP. I lost my favorite Lexar 128mb drive that way, a while back. Stuck it in the slot, heard a little pop, looked down, and saw a small wisp of smoke. Fried that sucker, but good......and it showed NO sign of life since then. Best bet would be to contact the manufacturer, and see if they'd be willing to look at it. Sorry, can't be more helpful than that.
