Dont know if this is possible but I'd like it to always be pinned to the desktop but not "on top" of other windows...

TIA

Uhhh...maybe I'm not understanding what you're asking. Right click on it, preferences, uncheck always on top.

I want it pinned to my desktop so that I can minimize all windows yet still have the winamp window open and visible on the desktop. I often have 12-16 windows open in my taskbar so the fastest way to switch for me is to use the minimize all in the quicklaunch. However, this minimizes winamp which I dont want.

I could check always on top but then its on top of other webpages, programs, etc which I dont want.

Thanks for pointing that option out to me. It still doesnt give me any of the controls in a format that always on the desktop though. I do have statbar which give me controls at the top of my screen but for some reason it disabled the volume, so I cant control that....

If you use Windows key + M to minimize all windows it won't minimize Winamp.

I assume you are using Windows key + D which is show desktop, i.e. get rid of everything on screen.

Thanks for the tip, but I dont even use keyboard shortcuts. I just use the minimize button in the quicklaunch bar of winxp.

hmm I recall seeing a link here yesterday to a desktop launcher that let you control winamp from buttons on the taskbar...
lemme go see if I can find it.

That's the same as pressing WinKey + D ...... so it'll get everything out of the screen. The systray option, with always-on-top disabled is the best idea. Just a single click on the winamp button and it'll pop up. Minimize it and it'll be off the screen.

I dont know how to say it clearer but this is not what I want. Im trying to find a solution that will let me have winamp "pinned" to the desktop-always maximized but not on top of other windows. Im I just not making sense here?

No, I follow you completely. I'm just saying that there might be a problem, since most apps (even those that are "glued" to the desktop), when you click the Show Desktop icon, won't appear, since they will be hidden too. It's a bug (or feature). Programs that let you change the shell (Litestep and others) face this problem ... since the Show Desktop button clears everything and will only let the desktop icons (and Active Desktop) through.

But keep on searching ... there might be some tool for this.

in other words you want winamp to be part of the desktop. don't see how it's possible. maybe you can e-mail the creator of winamp and suggest it in their next update :)

Is there a way to have the basic winamp controls integrated into your Start bar, or IE, or along the side of your screen, or something? (not corneramp, I use that, but I want more. :D)

a program called statbar has this option but unfortunately for some reason it disables the winamp volume control, so its pretty useless.

How about this:

Put it on Always On Top and the put it on the top of the screen

Next Double Click on the Winamp window title bar (all the way on the top of the Winamp window) to "windowshade" it. It will be as small as the title bar of a program yet still have all the function buttons and track time.

Is this what you are looking to do?

Edit:
Just found the other option I was looking for:
Go into the Preferences -> Plug-ins -> General Purpose menu
There should be one plug in listed here as Nullsoft Try Control Plug-In
Click on that and go to Configure. Choose the options you want and viola! Everything in the start menu.

Hope this helps.

would this work? I know it's not what you're looking for, but it might work for you. I know what you're looking for, but I don't know if it exists. Sort of like how Coolmon "pins" itself to the desktop.

If you don't want to go down the window key + M route, then you can do this:
Create a file called minimize.vbs with the following in

Set Shell = WScript.CreateObject ("Shell.Application")
Shell.MinimizeAll

Create a shotcut to this in your quicklaunch and use this instead of the show desktop icon.

If you want to restore all windows then you can create another file containing

Set Shell = WScript.CreateObject ("Shell.Application")
Shell.UndoMinimizeAll
