Any way to monitor 6800GT temps while playing games?

I'd either like to see the temp overlayed or have something to record the temps every so often. Kinda like MBM but for my Nvidia card.

No problem under Linux, just use "nvidia-settings --ctrl-display=:0" from another computer or use it in commandline mode.

For Windows, I'd like to know, too. Is there any commandline utility that I can call from another program?

Well, I have a dual monitor set up so I tend to put task monitor, probes and ram monitoring software and the like on the other screen when I play. But, I have noticed that there is a minute amount of lag in the game due to the monitoring software. If you mean on a single screen, then I have no idea unless you want to ALT-TAB out of the game, but I suppose that kind of defeats the purpose of overlaying.

EDIT: Typo

RivaTuner does it.
Install RivaTuner and follow the instructions in this thread.

Then, after having played a game, open RivaTuner and open the graph, which will show the log of temperatures and frequencies.

When I did that (dual-head on one card) under Windows, the framerate for the game dropped by 30%. I figured you need a second video card to keep the full framerate at the main card.

What I want is something I can (commandline) call. I will deliver it over a Tcp socket or write to a file eventually but my program does that. All I need is a commandline utility to deliver the status.
