Any way to make SETI run 'invisibly'?

There are several computers here at work which I have received permission to use to run SETI. However, these computers will also be in use occasionally, and the idiots - I mean employees - who will be using them would probably see the 'Dish' icon and click it and close the client. Is there any way I can set up the 3.0 client to run without the Green Dish (GUI version) in the system tray or without the DOS prompt button on the taskbar?

Thanks!

I've made a small program for running SETI hidden and at lowest priority. It's untested on Win95 but I can't think of a reason why it wouldn't work. Mail me and I'll send it to you.

Fardringle: I use SetiLog with the Command Line version. You put SetiLog in the same directory as the Command Line exe file and use it to start the client. Putting a /h switch at the end will hide it for you. SetiLog can be found HERE. I also use SetiWatch to monitor the client(s) over the network. This works great for keeping track of multiple clients over a network. If you have any questions about using them give me a Private Message and I'll help! 🙂

Oh, if you do run the Command Line version make sure you go to the \Windows\System folder and find the file conagent.exe. Right click on it and select Properties then Misc. Uncheck the box that says "warn if still active". That will stop the client from prompting the idiot, I mean, user to close the DOS proggie first! 🙂

Part of the reason I'd like to stay with the GUI client and just have it run when the screen saver is active is because these computers are being used by the graphic design team, and SETI can't be crunching, even on low priority, while they are actually using their computers. If there is a program that will have this same effect with the command client, and still hide it, that would be great as well...

The CLI should stop and give them all the CPU cycles they need. Why not run it on 1 computer hidden for a few days and see if the people notice?

Theoretically, that would work, but the people who use these particular machines know just enough about computers to notice the difference (the icon in the system tray) but are moronic enough that they would probably manage to format the hard drive while trying to figure out what the icon is for...even after I told them MANY times just to ignore it. And yes, I'm saying this from previous experience with these people.. :disgust:

If you run the text client there won't be an icon in the tray. You can hide the cli from the user very easily.🙂

Running the text client doesn't put an icon in the system tray, but it puts a button on the taskbar...however, I have found a program that will do what I need. SetiHide will automatically run itself and the command line client when Windows loads, and will then completely hide both programs so that they are not even visible from the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL). 🙂

Just do what Robor said, and the text client won't show up at all, except in the Ctrl-Alt-Del list. Or, you can try to use SETIHide. 🙂
