Any way to know when/if DSL will be available?

Along with a new computer, I'd like a new connection. 56K is too slow, so I'm thinking broadband. At dslreports.com it lists a phone CO as 7000 ft away from my house. But it says that no DSL is offered. Is there any way to find out if/when DSL will become available. Cable internet is now being installed in my neighborhood, so that is also an option.

As far as I know.. there is no simple way of finding out. It all depends on who is laying down the offices and who owns the DSL lines in that area. Basically, your best bet is to call yer telco.

Your serving central office will have to be provisioned(slammed) for you to get dsl in your area. This will happen within the next year or so,untill then get cable.I did and I will never go back(well never say never...)Any kind of broadband connection is better than any kind of dial up,sep for maybe isdn over satelite.Adsl(dsl) is killer because you can convert your existing phone line, same number, and use it for voice and data at the same time.
