Any tips on keeping mIRC connected while I'm gone from the PC? I'm usually on there, and I'd like to leave it connected when I'm gone so I don't have to reconnect when I get back from classes...

yeah, I'm not an expert in IRC, but I'm pretty sure it's the server doing it too, and I'm wondering if there's a way to get mIRC to maybe transmit something every once in a while just to avoid idling out...

The most oldschool of tricks is to set a timer that says '.' every 5 minutes or maybe a /ctcp yournick PING so you don't look like an idiot. :)

Look in the help file for /timer

There are plenty of scripts that do this. Some even join a random channel so you don't look like a moron or annoy anyone.
